Introducing Tawonga’s Young Alumni Board
April 20, 2016
Millennial Tawongans are paying forward the transformative experiences they had as kids at Camp through our brand new Young Alumni Board. Taking the lessons they learned as campers and staff, these young adults are preparing themselves to lead our community in the future. Listen to Jessica Chizen, one of the board’s founding members:
Growing up at Tawonga and working on staff helped shape me into a more thoughtful, compassionate and open-minded person. Camp inspired me to choose a career as a pediatric speech-language pathologist, helping children with special needs. It is such an honor to join my peers on the Young Alumni Board and give back to Camp in order to ensure Tawonga continues to inspire today’s kids.
Jessica and her fellow board members are creating exciting new opportunities for young adults at an important stage of life. It’s so heartening to see them take an active role to shape the world in which they will be raising the next generation of children.
We are so proud of our alumni for being such mensches, but of course, we’re not really surprised. Since 1925, Tawonga has been a warm, welcoming Jewish community, with a clear mission to bring out the best in young people. We know they make the world a better place when they share our Jewish values through acts of loving kindness.
This Passover, we appreciate how the essence of this holiday is reflected in the work of our alumni. They honor the struggle our ancestors endured in order to be free by passing forward our beautiful traditions and values.
In the bond of Tawongans, we wish you a sweet Passover.
Ken and Jamie
