ABOUT OUR LOCATION
Our beautiful property encompasses 160 acres along the Tuolumne River, inside the Stanislaus National Forest, just 7 miles from Yosemite National Park. Camp Tawonga is approximately a 3-hour drive from Oakland International Airport (OAK) and 3.5 hours from San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
Your site & lodging fees gives you access to our 160-acre property, including our outdoor sanctuary Makom Shalom, our main lodge-style dining hall, cabins, bathrooms, basketball court, soccer and softball fields and sports equipment, A/V equipment, hiking trails, and many recreational opportunities. We are happy to provide a campfire or softball game should you so desire. Tawonga provides a site-coordinator on-call 24/7 during your event, an assistant site coordinator, a kitchen crew and a maintenance crew. Our wonderful staff will set-up and take-down tables and chairs, keep the bathrooms and common spaces looking beautiful, prepare all the food, and assist guests with limited mobility in getting around our site.
Lodging at Camp Tawonga is rustic and amenities vary from cabin to cabin. We will provide you with a detailed list of our housing stock so you can assign housing for your guests. There is a flat fee per person per night for sleeping at camp, regardless of whether the guest is housed in one of our more basic cabins or one of our premium cabins. There is no charge for children 2 and under.
There are 8 fully winterized premium cabins with electricity, bathrooms, and heat that can comfortably sleep around 25-30 people. Half of these cabins feature kitchens or kitchenettes, living rooms and decks. There are 10 cabins with bathrooms and electricity (space heaters can be plugged in to provide heat) that sleep around 67 people. There are 5 cabins with electricity that use common bathhouses shared by multiple cabins. These cabins house approximately 60 people. There are 44 rustic cabins with no electricity or plumbing. Some are small and private, sleeping 3 or 4 people, and some are large with bunk beds and large decks that can accommodate up to 14 or 15 people. All together, these rustic cabins can sleep about 327 people. Beds and mattresses are provided. Guests should be told to bring their own bedding.
We will work with you to create a menu, and prices may vary from the basic quote provided in this proposal. Our basic offering includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a late night snack each day. All meals are served either family style or buffet. Complimentary Peet’s coffee and tea are free-flowing throughout the day along with a fruit bowl and camp-style snacks such as granola bars.
We are expert at accommodating a variety of diets including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and food allergies. Please note our kitchen is nut-free. Please also note that we only allow beer and wine on our premises.
Inquire about our ropes course, guided nature hikes, teambuilding activities, boating on the lake, swimming in our heated, Olympic-sized swimming pool, yoga, archery, arts and crafts, a mikveh in the river, a slideshow, or religious services. If you have a special activity in mind, don’t hesitate to ask and we will do our best to make it happen!
“As long-time Tawongans we couldn’t imagine having our wedding anywhere else once we decided to do the ceremony in an outdoor setting. The natural beauty, privacy and unspoken spirituality of Tawonga allowed for our community of friends and family to quickly bond, play and generally be more present for our big moment. Tawonga knocked it out of the park with every meal and really helped us turn the camp setting into something regal for the day. Having the freedom to stay up late, make as much noise as we needed to and generally use the space as we like provided for the perfect canvas for us to create our dream weekend with those most dear to us. Months and months later many of our family and friends (and often folks who are not Jewish) are still talking about what an impact the weekend had on them and are bothering us to celebrate our anniversary with them up there!”

“As I am sure you heard the wedding was fantastic. Sarah and Aaron were rock stars. They really impressed everyone, especially our parents.”
