Supervisor Positions

Supervisor positions are crucial leadership roles for people who have prior camp experience or other relevant supervision experience. All department supervisors attend required pre-Camp leadership development and supervision training May 24-28 and June 6-10.

Coordinate all-camp programs, assist Unit Heads with unit programming, support camp A/V needs and supervise Program Assistants. Activity/event coordination experience required, Tawonga Unit Head experience a plus.

Unit Head

(5 positions: $3500, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Responsible for managing 4-5 camper cabins and supervising an Assistant Unit Head, 10-12 Bunk Counselors, and 2-4 Unit Counselors. Create all-unit programs, including Kabbalat Shabbat, and help develop Camp-wide events. Serve as a member of the supervisor management team. (5 positions: entry level supervisor $3000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Responsible for: counselor supervision, unit programming, camper management, counselors’ daily schedule, facilitating camper medications, and organizing camper chugim (electives). Serve as a member of the supervisor management team. Great communication skills, 2 yrs. college (or equivalent), and previous counselor experience required. Click here to apply

Summer Assistant Director

(1 position: $5000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Work with the directors, assistant directors, and department heads to supervise and run the day-to-day operations of camp. Supervise up to three departments and help develop programs. Jewish Program Director

(1 position: $3500, significantly more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Supervise Jewish programming at camp and develop and lead creative camp-wide Shabbat programs. Facilitate discussions on Jewish topics with bunk groups. Assist with weekly Shabbat morning Torah services. Help to prepare units for their Kabbalat Shabbat programs. Supervise program assistant. Creative programming, storytelling, meditation, yoga, art, and music skills are all assets. Supervision and Jewish education experience required.

Specialist & Counselor In-Training (SCIT) Program Supervisor

(1 positions: $350/wk, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10, Program is June 17 – July 6) All responsibilities of SCIT Staff plus responsible for managing and supervising SCIT program and SCIT leaders. Create SCIT programs, including week of training, and help develop Camp-wide events. Serve as a member of the supervisor management team. College degree (or equivalent) and 3 yrs. camp experience required. Graduate training or social work experience helpful. Head of Waterfront

(1 position: $2800, more DOE.) Lifeguard at beautiful Olympic-sized pool, Tuolumne River and small lake. Create and lead fun water games at the pool for campers. Hike with groups to river areas as safety monitor and lifeguard. Current lifeguard certification required. Make schedules and supervise Waterfront program and staff. Experience teaching lessons and WSI strongly preferred. (Includes pre-Camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.)

Head of Arts and Crafts 

(1 position: $2800, more DOE.)Instruct: tie-dye, candle making, copper enameling, ceramics (hand building and electric wheel), silk painting, Jewish crafts, print making, lanyards, and more. Organize and clean all supplies and equipment daily. Other duties: distribute pack-out supplies, operate kiln firings, and participate in unit activities. Teaching experience helpful. Also, one Arts and Crafts Director position to supervise and schedule staff, oversee department and order supplies. (Director position includes pre-Camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.)

Wilderness Supervisor

(1-2 positions, $4000, more DOE. Preferred start date May 1. Includes pre-camp supervision training May 24-28 and June 6-10 and Wilderness Staff training week May 31- June 5.) Train, supervise, and support wilderness staff in the following program areas: backpacking, teen adventure Quests, challenge course, nature and garden programming, and sustainability. Respond to emergencies in the field. Must be 21+ with current Wilderness First Responder or WEMT and Lifeguard certifications. Prior Tawonga Wilderness Leader experience preferred.

Challenge Course Manager

(1 position: $3500, significantly more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10, Wilderness Staff training week May 31 – June 5, and ideally weekend programs through September.) Supervise the challenge course and challenge course facilitators. Lead week-long training for facilitators covering local operating procedures, sequencing, debriefing, facilitating games and initiatives. Facilitate groups through low and high elements of our adventure challenge course. Teach belaying and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment. Inspect and maintain equipment and elements throughout summer. Excellent leadership and facilitation skills required; experience with children required; prior challenge course facilitation experience required. Project Adventure Advanced Standards and Skills certification or equivalent leading-edge climbing/rescue training required (Tawonga will reimburse for training if you do not already possess it). Prior supervision experience preferred. ACCT practitioner certification preferred. Must be 21+ with current First Aid and CPR.

Assistant Kitchen Manager

(1 position: $4000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Assist Kitchen Manager in the daily management of the kitchen. Supervise 1-2 kitchen departments as well as directly supervising kitchen staff. Oversee kitchen inventory, organization, and cleanliness. Must have professional cooking experience and enjoy working closely with others. Experience in the Tawonga kitchen a plus.

Lead Cook

(3 positions: $3500, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Cook breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snack (up to 500 servings each), and supervise prep-cooks in preparation and cleanup. Each cook leads AM, PM or snack shift daily and contributes to Kitchen Supervision Team. Must have professional cooking experience and enjoy working very closely with others.

Alternative Foods Cook

(2 positions: $3200, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Responsible for preparing all vegetarian, vegan, and other restricted dietary alternatives for each meal (50-150 servings). Cook all-camp meals at least once a week. Contribute to Kitchen Supervision Team. Pack all food for meals eaten outside of the dining hall and maintain pack-out inventory. Must be extremely well organized and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of backpacking and BBQ food helpful. Must have 1-year experience in the Tawonga kitchen or equivalent.

Pantry Cook

(1 position: $3200 more DOE.  Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) The Pantry Cook is responsible for all aspects of the pantry, reach-in, walk-in units, freezer and pot storage or middle room, including keeping these areas clean and organized at all times. Responsible for inventorying all kitchen items 1-2 times/week. Oversees that deliveries are put away upon delivery and that stock is rotated. Registered Nurse

(1 position: $6000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Act as primary healthcare professional at camp. Run the Health Center: supervise camper visits, call parents, keep records, contact local EMS, and work with volunteer MDs. Pediatric, ER, and/or camp experience helpful. Supervise 2 assistants. WFR recommended.

Camp Therapist

(1 position: $3300, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Must have an MA in Counseling or Social Work and half of supervised hours. Consult with Directors, Supervisors, and counselors regarding challenging camper situations. See individual campers for assessment and short-term individual support. Assist staff with situations that affect work performance or morale. Call parents as needed. Possibility to earn supervised hours.

Head of Transportation

(1 position $2800 more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Manage a small team of drivers and all scheduling and logistics of the transportation department. Must have demonstrated skill and strength in logistical challenges and be detail-oriented. Ensure safety, conduct regular vehicle maintenance, and report any vehicle damages. Must be at least 21 years old and have an excellent driving record.

Head of Maintenance

(3 positions: $2800. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Responsibilities include supervising the maintenance crew and assisting the Caretaker as needed with grounds-keeping, janitorial, and housekeeping needs. Lead shifts, and teach and role model safety, professionalism, and strong work ethic while doing physical work. Assist with camp-wide recycling efforts.
