Essential Roles to Ensure the Success of Camp

The following staff positions, though not programmatic, are essential to the success of Camp:

Assistant Kitchen Manager

(1 position: $4000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Assist Kitchen Manager in the daily management of the kitchen. Supervise 1-2 kitchen departments as well as directly supervising kitchen staff. Oversee kitchen inventory, organization, and cleanliness. Must have professional cooking experience and enjoy working closely with others. Experience in the Tawonga kitchen a plus.

Lead Cook

(3 positions: $3500, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Cook breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snack (up to 500 servings each), and supervise prep-cooks in preparation and cleanup. Each cook leads AM, PM or snack shift daily and contributes to Kitchen Supervision Team. Must have professional cooking experience and enjoy working very closely with others.

Alternative Foods Cook

(2 positions: $3200, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Responsible for preparing all vegetarian, vegan, and other restricted dietary alternatives for each meal (50-150 servings). Cook all-camp meals at least once a week. Contribute to Kitchen Supervision Team. Pack all food for meals eaten outside of the dining hall and maintain pack-out inventory. Must be extremely well organized and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of backpacking and BBQ food helpful. Must have 1-year experience in the Tawonga kitchen or equivalent.

(1 position: $3200, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Supervise the baking and pantry department. Responsible for daily desserts and baked goods (everything from sandwich bread and challah to pizza dough, baguettes, and more). Responsible for inventory of baking ingredients. Supervise and work directly with bakery and pantry assistants to accomplish daily tasks, including camper and kitchen laundry. Contribute to the Kitchen Supervision Team. Must have professional baking experience and enjoy working very closely with others.

Pantry Cook

(1 position: $3200 more DOE.  Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) The Pantry Cook is responsible for all aspects of the pantry, reach-in, walk-in units, freezer and pot storage or middle room, including keeping these areas clean and organized at all times. Responsible for inventorying all kitchen items 1-2 times/week. Oversees that deliveries are put away upon delivery and that stock is rotated. Pantry Assistant

(1 position: $2400) Work directly with the Pantry Cook to make all desserts for camp. Support Assistant Kitchen Manager in putting away orders and maintaining the general cleanliness and upkeep of the main kitchen areas (including all food storage). Responsible for completing camper and kitchen laundry in a timely, organized, and efficient manner. Click here to apply

Bakery Assistant

(1 position: $2400) Work directly with the Head Baker in producing all baked goods for camp. Assist in general cleanliness and upkeep of bakery department of the kitchen. Work independently on Head Baker’s day off.

(14 positions: entry level salary $2200.) Responsible for meal prep, fast-paced food service, and kitchen cleanup. Must have experience with and like working around food. Work either morning shift, evening shift, late night shift as pantry assistant, alternative foods assistant, or laundry shift. Must work closely with others in an intense environment.

Maintenance

Head of Maintenance

(3 positions: $2800. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10) Responsibilities include supervising the maintenance crew and assisting the Caretaker as needed with grounds-keeping, janitorial, and housekeeping needs. Lead shifts, and teach and role model safety, professionalism, and strong work ethic while doing physical work. Assist with camp-wide recycling efforts.

Operations

Head of Transportation

(1 position $2800 more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Manage a small team of drivers and all scheduling and logistics of the transportation department. Must have demonstrated skill and strength in logistical challenges and be detail-oriented. Ensure safety, conduct regular vehicle maintenance, and report any vehicle damages. Driver

(5 positions: entry level salary $2300. Includes driver training June 9.) Drive 8-passenger SUVs, often towing a trailer, on mountain roads and highways, maintaining safety as highest priority. Run camp errands including shopping. Provide regular assistance in camp office such as mail sorting, phone and radio coverage. Transport campers, staff and/or luggage to and from Bay Area at the beginning and end of each session. Must be 21 years old and have an excellent driving record.

Camp Office Staff

(2 positions: entry level salary $2200)
Answer phones and gate radio calls, fill and distribute canteen orders, sort mail, assist Director team with special projects, take photos for camp blog, as well as other various administrative duties.  Maintain cleanliness and positive vibe of the office and staff kitchen.  Provide excellent customer service.  Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and enjoy being part of the hub of camp.

Blogger & Photographer

(1 positions: entry level salary $2200 more DOE)
This exciting (and new as of 2015) position is a great hybrid of the summer camp experience and professional skill-building. Document Camp life daily through photography and blog writing. Take photos of campers doing activities, write about the day with an emphasis on educating readers about Tawonga values and traditions, and post online. Support drafting posts for Tawonga’s social media as well. Excellent writer, detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Digital photography and photo editing experience required. San Francisco Office Staff

(2 positions based in downtown San Francisco. Entry level salary $15/hour some weekend time required; possibility to start in May) Support administrative needs of the San Francisco office, including phone calls with parents, mail, filing, paperwork, and camper send-off and return. Coordinate Israeli camper housing and weekend activities. Must be organized, self motivated, and provide high-level customer service.

Health Center

Registered Nurse

(1 position: $6000, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Act as primary healthcare professional at camp. Run the Health Center: supervise camper visits, call parents, keep records, contact local EMS, and work with volunteer MDs. Pediatric, ER, and/or camp experience helpful. Supervise 2 assistants. Medical Assistant

(3 positions: $2300, more DOE. 21+) Assist RN in running the Health Center and providing T.L.C. to campers and staff. Must be WFR, EMT, CNA, or senior in an RN program. Possible certification reimbursement available.

Camp Therapist

(1 position: $3300, more DOE. Includes pre-camp training May 24-28 and June 6-10.) Must have an MA in Counseling or Social Work and half of supervised hours. Consult with Directors, Supervisors, and counselors regarding challenging camper situations. See individual campers for assessment and short-term individual support.
