Shabbat at Tawonga is a special time for campers, and not just because they get a sleep-in breakfast and special cereal bar! Shabbat is known as the day of rest – a time to enjoy leisurely activities and reflect on the past week. After services, campers split off and attend float stations of their choice all around Camp. From the Pool and Lake to Arts & Crafts and sports on the Field, there’s no shortage of activities to choose from.

At the end of floats, campers reconvene at the Stage for a buffet lunch of leftovers from the week’s meals served in the Dining Hall. This is followed by a very fitting and well-deserved rest hour in the shade of their bunk.

A highlight of Shabbat for many campers is a special elective block, cleverly known as “Shabblectives.” Earlier in the week, counselors gave their campers a list of unique Shabblectives to choose from, one of which is The Camper Shablog. Seven campers walked around Camp embracing their inner photojournalist, capturing other fun Shabblectives with Camp’s digital camera. Some of their best photographs are featured in a gallery below.
