Tawonga’s high holiday offerings are a beautiful and joyful way for you and your family to welcome the Jewish New Year. Each year, we celebrate in the spirit of Camp Tawonga – in community, with joyous song and meaningful prayer.

Erev Rosh Hashanah Celebration
Friday, September 11, 4pm – 6pm
East Bay
Gather with friends, family, and community for a joyful outdoor Rosh Hashanah service featuring traditional prayers, inspiring teachings, spirited singing, and the warmth and ruach that make Tawonga gatherings so special. This family-friendly celebration is open to people of all ages.
The service will be led by Rabbi Deborah Newbrun and Isaac Zones, whose music, wisdom, and leadership have become a cherished part of our High Holiday celebrations.
Joining them will be Maya Elise (Abramson), Roger Sideman, Casey Cohen and Marissa Deitz, creating a rich musical experience.
Be sure to bring your shofar if you have one – we’ll conclude with our community shofar blast to welcome the new year together!
Tashlich Gathering
Sunday, September 13, 3:30pm – 5pm
Peninsula
We’re excited to bring the beloved High Holiday tradition of Tashlich to the Peninsula for the first ever Tawonga Tashlich!
Tashlich is a beautiful High Holiday tradition in which we gather near water to symbolically cast away the mistakes, burdens, and worries we carry from the past year. Together, we’ll welcome the new year with reflection and community.
Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends, or coming on your own, we look forward to welcoming you.
Together we’ll experience an afternoon of Jewish ritual, music, and reflection near water. Our gathering will include: A meaningful family-friendly Tashlich ritual program with music and singing with Isaac Zones (Tawonga songleader) and time to connect with old friends and make new ones.
Kol Nidre Service
Sunday, September 20, 3:30pm – 5:30pm
East Bay
As the Ten Days of Awe draw to a close, we come to Yom Kippur, the most reflective and soul-searching day of the Jewish year, beginning with the moving Kol Nidre service.
We invite Tawongans and friends in 6th grade and older to join us for our annual Kol Nidre Service. This meaningful and musical gathering, led by the same service leaders and musicians as Erev Rosh Hashanah, offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and connect in community as we enter Yom Kippur together.
Participants are welcome to wear white, a tradition that symbolizes renewal and introspection.
Our early observance is designed to complement other High Holiday plans, allowing participants to also attend evening Kol Nidre services at their synagogue or elsewhere.
