Session 2

Hail, Hail, the Gang’s All Here!

Four days into Session 2 and 2a, Camp is buzzing with the kind of energy that only happens when hundreds of Tawongans come together in the pines.

“I feel like we’re all vibing together so well, and it’s already been so much fun!” shared G-7 camper Sivan S.

Across Session 2 and 2a, approximately 93% of campers are returning, which has helped our community quickly find its flow. Those veteran campers have been helping newcomers learn the ropes, from getting oriented to our beautiful site, to silly song session hand motions, to bunk clean-up teamwork.

Fellow G-7 camper Clara M. said she’s really enjoyed getting back into that special Camp rhythm.

“At Camp I get on a good water schedule, a good sleep schedule, a good food schedule, mental health schedule, and exercise schedule.”

Our fantastic Specialists and Counselors-in-Training (SCITs), rising 12th graders who spent a week preparing for the summer ahead, have fully stepped into their roles. Whether supporting bunks, leading activities or helping create moments of magic around Camp, they are already making a meaningful impact.

The connections that began on Havurah (friend) hikes and around opening campfires have continued to deepen with every passing day. Bunks that felt brand new just a few days ago are already sharing inside jokes, cheering one another on, and creating memories that will last long after summer ends.

One place where that community spirit has been especially noticeable is during song sessions – where the Dining Hall overflows with music, laughter, and ruach as campers sing their hearts out together.

In the unit of Eilat, campers added an extra layer of silliness by passing around an inflatable banana during song session, creating plenty of laughs along the way. And after persistent requests from campers, Head Song Leader Devin finally capitulated and played “Wonderwall,” prompting enthusiastic singalongs from across the room.

Meanwhile, over in the Garden Kitchen, campers have been busy making fresh sushi together. Garden Kitchen Staff member Giora lovingly refers to the grins on kids’ faces as “sushi smiles,” and judging by the happy faces leaving the kitchen, the nickname fits perfectly.

Beyond song sessions and food crafting, campers have been filling their days with art, waterfront adventures, climbing challenge course elements, sports, farm visits, and countless moments of connection. With Cabin Floats, Free Swim, and specialty activities already underway, it’s clear that Camp life is in full swing.

Looking ahead, there’s still so much magic to come: epic backpacking trips, joyful Shabbat celebrations, creative projects, campfires, s’mores, and all the sweet mission moments that make Tawonga so special.

We’re only a few days in, and already this session is shaping up to be one to remember.
