Assistant Director of Bay Area Programs

Anna Akullian

Anna brings a deep love of Camp and a strong commitment to building meaningful community to her role as Assistant Director of Bay Area Programs. Her journey with Tawonga started as a wide-eyed camper in 1999 and has continued through nearly every stage of camp life. She began with eight summers as a camper and ten years on summer staff—including roles as a counselor, supervising the In Training (IT) program, leading a teen trip to Israel, and serving on the director team—followed by 2.5 years on the full-time team, helping to manage the very first cohort of Tawonga’s B’nai Mitzvah Program.

Anna holds a Master’s in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University and a Master’s in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon. Along the way, she’s worked as an associate therapist, educator, and community manager at a large tech company where she focused on creating safer and more connected online spaces.

At her core, Anna believes in the power of connection. She sees Tawonga as a true antidote to the loneliness and mental health crises facing our world today. Whether she’s supporting campers, guiding families, or dreaming up meaningful programming, Anna infuses her work with care, curiosity, and a deep belief in the transformative impact of Camp. She’s grateful to be part of the team that helps create the magic of Camp year round!

Outside of work you can find her hiking Claremont Canyon, practicing yoga (she’s a certified instructor), or doing the New York Times Sunday crossword with her husband—whom she met as a fellow Tawonga counselor in 2009.
