Tawonga Lovebirds at Fall Family Camp
Last weekend, 62 families spent a glorious weekend together at Tawonga for our final Family Camp of the season. The energy was palpable, from families experiencing Camp for the first time, to alumni passing the Tawonga torch to their kids. But perhaps the most beautiful part of the weekend was witnessing all the love up in the Sierras: two couples celebrated their ten-year anniversary on Friday night with us – congratulations to Jennifer and Andrew Gadiel and Amy Jo and Aaron Goldfarb!
Inspired by this doubly momentous occasion, Associate Director Becca Meyer asked everyone in the Dining Hall that evening who met his or her partner at Tawonga to stand up. As it turned out, five couples with us that night met right here at Camp Tawonga. Janet Rae and Paisha Jorgensen, Jessica and Matt Colvin, Shira and Jordan Gill (pictured above), Erik Rice and Ellen Nystrom, and Nina Kaufman Kaan and Dan Kaplan Kaan: You are our Tawonga Lovebirds!
Many Tawonga couples choose to use the Camp chuppah poles for their weddings – created from the beautiful cedar trees on our property. Over 20 names are burned into these poles, and we now have two sets due to growing demand. In fact, this very weekend, one more set of names will be added to the poles after getting married on-site at Tawonga (stay tuned for a wedding recap!).
To all the lovebirds and their families who spent the weekend with us, thank you for carrying our program season home with such enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see you again soon…like at our 90th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, November 7 or at our Family Hike and Picnic on Sunday, October 11!
