Second Shabbat!
Shabbat Shalom Tawongans! Camp was buzzing this afternoon as everyone got ready to welcome the Sabbath as a community. Our first Shabbat last week was such a joyous experience, being the first of the summer after such a long wait.
We began our Shabbat stroll on the Ridge Side of Camp and picked up each bunk one by one in a long procession, heading towards the River Side before arriving at the dining pavilion. Shabbat always begins with blessings over the candles, wine (grape juice) and challah, followed by the Sabbath prayer. Dinner was delicious as usual, and campers seem to have agreed that Tawonga has the best grape juice in the world!
After dinner everyone joined in for a lively freylach on the lawn. To finish the night, each unit participated in Kabbalat Shabbat services where bunks performed skits as an expression of different prayers.
Meanwhile, this afternoon we welcomed back the unit of Galil (B-3, B-4, G-3, G-4A and G-4B) from their backpacking trips just in time for Shabbat (they had a blast on their adventures!). Also today, the bunk of B-7 had fun celebrating a goat “Baaah Mitzvah.” Campers discussed the tradition and ritual of B’nai Mitzvahs and performed skits acting out the Torah portion and other elements of a B’nai Mitzvah. The goats were fully celebrated as our Baaah Mitzvah honorees! See you tomorrow!
