Support Staff Positions
The following staff positions are essential to the success of Camp, and are an amazing way to join our Tawonga staff community. Please pay close attention to the dates for each position, while most summer staff dates are May 31 – August 8, 2026 (which includes staff training May 31 – June 6), various roles require additional pre-camp training (full contract dates are listed below for each position). Almost all positions at Tawonga include long, active days where it is normal to walk 4-8 miles between staff housing, communally shared meals and various locations where work responsibilities occur. Staff live in shared, rustic staff housing.
Kitchen
Bakery & Pantry Assistant
(1 position: $4519. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8) Work directly with the Bakery & Pantry Lead to make all desserts for camp and keep the behind the scenes of our Kitchen tidy. Support the Bakery & Pantry Lead in putting away orders and maintaining the general cleanliness and upkeep of all Kitchen areas (including all food storage). Responsible for completing Camper and Kitchen laundry in a timely, organized, and efficient manner. Live in shared, rustic staff housing.
Prep Cook
(20 positions: entry level salary $4275. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8) Prep Cooks are responsible for meal prep, fast-paced food service and kitchen cleanup. Must like working around food and experience working in a commercial kitchen is a plus. Work either morning shift, evening shift, late night shift in our Main Kitchen, Alternative Foods Kitchen or “Bantry” (Bakery + Pantry). Must work closely with others in a high pace and stimulating environment. Live in shared, rustic staff housing.
Operations
Maintenance Staff
(9 positions: entry level salary $4275. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8) Responsible for all janitorial, housekeeping and grounds-keeping needs. Work 70% outdoors, 30% indoors. Physical work, fun crew! Must be able to work in hot climate, outside for up to 8 hours per day and able to lift up to 50 pounds. Live in shared, rustic staff housing.
Driver
(6 positions: entry level salary $4585. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 9.) Drive groups of campers from ages 8-16 in 8-passenger vans and SUVs, often towing a trailer, on mountain roads and highways, maintaining safety as the highest priority. Run camp errands including shopping and picking up mail. Transport campers, staff and/or luggage to and from Bay Area at the beginning and end of each session. Live in shared, rustic staff housing. Must be 21 years old with a valid drivers license and have an excellent driving record.
Farm and Garden Specialist
(1 position, $4510, Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8). Work with Farm and Garden Supervisor to support cultivation of Tawonga’s vegetable and ornamental garden using organic farming practices. Care for goats and chickens, including feeding, watering, mucking, and facilitating humane educational programs with animals and campers. Collaborate with Naturalists (Teva Specialists) to lead engaging farm and garden programming for children ages 8-16, fostering with campers a connection to nature, Jewish values of sustainability and caring for the world, and a connection to food, land and farming. Must be able to navigate over 4-8 miles of uneven terrain to different program areas around camp daily and lift up to 40 lbs. Live in cabin with other staff. Work 8 hours/day outside and provide extra early morning/late night care for animals as needed. Farm and Garden experience preferred.
Office
Camp Office Staff
(2 positions: entry level salary $4275. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8.) Work either an AM shift (8am to 2pm) or PM shift (2pm to 10pm) that includes answering phones and gate radio calls, filling and distributing camp store orders, sorting mail, assisting the Director team with special projects, taking photos for camp blog, and completing other various administrative duties. Maintain cleanliness and positive vibe of the office and staff kitchen. Provide excellent customer service. Live in shared, rustic staff housing. Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and enjoy being part of the hub of camp.
Blogger & Photographer
(1 positions: entry level salary $4510or more DOE. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8.) This position offers excellent professional skill-building in communications and media in a fun summer camp environment. Document daily camp life through photography and writing. Engage directly with campers by taking bunk and activity photos, write about the day with an emphasis on educating readers about Tawonga values and traditions, and post content on Tawonga’s blog and the parent app, Campanion. Excellent photographer and writer, detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Digital photography and photo editing experience required. Knowledge of WordPress and Lightroom helpful. Additional office support as needed. Live in shared, rustic staff housing. Must enjoy working with kids and living in a camp environment.
Health and Wellbeing
Health Technician
(4 positions: $4585, more DOE. Dates for this position are May 31 – August 8.) Assist RN in running the Health Center, distributing camper medication, conducting inventory of health center supplies, providing medical care and T.L.C. to campers and staff. Must be WFR, EMT, CNA, or senior in an RN program. Health Technicians work on a shift schedule where they are on for a shift, off for one shift and “on call” for one shift per day. Live in shared, rustic staff housing. Possible certification reimbursement available.
