Welcome Session 3 + 3a
On Sunday, we had the pleasure of welcoming our session 3 and 3a campers with songs, energy and, of course, ruach (spirit)! Smiling campers ran off the buses and into one another’s arms as they were reunited with friends and counselors from past summers along with excitement to meet new Tawongans.
Session 3 is our most returner-heavy session of the summer, which means many of our campers have been steeped in Tawonga traditions for years and happily mentor newcomers to the community.
“I’m so happy to be back — seeing the stars at night and going to the river makes me feel really connected to nature. The skies are clearer here than at home, so the stars shine brightly,” said B-8 camper Mazon Z.
Whether Camp veterans or first-time Tawongans, all campers have been enjoying classic activities during Floats, Ruach Hour and Free Swim. New programming additions include goat yoga with our three baby goats, Taylor Swift karaoke, Jewish rap battles, fairy synagogue construction, project runway fashion show and sunset soccer — to name a few. Long-time favorites like gaga, tie dye, Jews & tattoos, garden spa and cuddle puddles are familiar fun for many campers.
“This year, we’re really trying to bring silliness back to Camp — being silly, wacky and original,” said staff programmer Chloe T.
We look forward to a silly and carefree session with this incredible batch of campers. There’s plenty of excitement to come between backpacking trips, all-Camp programs like Shabbat and talent shows, chill time at the Tuolumne River and plenty of bunk bonding.
