Goodnight, Camp Tawonga
Tonight was definitely bittersweet. It’s truly an honor to have had the chance to spend the last two and a half weeks with this unique group of kids. Though we’re so sad to say goodbye, it’s uplifting knowing how special this session has been and exciting to think about all the ways these kids will take that “Tawonga magic” home with them come Tuesday morning.
After a Thanksgiving style banquet dinner of turkey and mashed potatoes (comfort food!), we joined together at the stage for the Closing Campfire. Staff and campers performed skits and songs and said goodnight to each other, reflecting on how amazing this session has been.
As bedtime approached, unit counselors, specialists and directors visited each bunk and serenaded them with one last classic Tawongan song of their choosing. The Last Night Serenade is an attempt to ease the transition from one home to another, gently singing each and every camper to sleep as they say goodbye to their bunkmates and counselors.
With two and a half weeks under our belt, it’s time for the whole community to say goodbye to Camp T. While it’s hard to leave this loving and supportive community, we know we’ll see so many of our friends next year here! We’ll miss you Session IV!
