The Power of Session III

Staff often describe Camp as utopian – a place we wish the rest of the world could emulate. Session III campers are no exception. This session is one of the most impactful programs for our campers, as they get to spend three full weeks together, immersing in all that is Tawonga, in the middle of beautiful Stanislaus National Forest.

Many of this session’s campers are long-time returners and already have a strong connection to Tawonga. You can feel the elevated ruach in high-spirited song sessions – campers at Session III just love Camp.

Older units venture on longer backpacking trips and participate in the “schvitz,” a sweat lodge activity at The Pipeline river spot. Activities like the Bagel Run (a day hike to Half Dome or Clouds Rest in Yosemite) and other unit hikes help campers to bond over intensive shared experiences. Campers experience two Shabbats which enrich their ability to connect spiritually with the land and community.

When the bunk of B-2 was asked about their favorite activity at Camp thus far, camper Zev F. exclaimed,

I can only choose one? I have so many. I’ve loved playing in the pool with my bunk, going to the lake and making bike smoothies!

Session III, you’re a special bunch!
