Welcome Session III

This afternoon, staff members across all departments excitedly crowded the dirt road as the Dining Hall bell rang out, signaling that the buses have safely arrived into Camp. Tawonga welcomed our Session III campers with songs, energy and ruach!

All of Camp gathered at the stage where bunk assignments were read off by Associate Director, Aaron Mandel and Camp Director Rebecca Meyer. Counselors greeted their campers with high fives and hugs as they met their cabin mates. The enthusiasm was contagious – campers jumped out of their seats and ran to meet their counselors as soon as their names were called.

Everyone then went on havarah hikes around Camp, orienting campers to key locations like the Health Center, Dining Hall and the Bath Houses. Campers played a variety of name games to continue to get to know each other to plan their short skits for the opening campfire later on.

Campers ate their first meal in the newly expanded Dining Hall – teriyaki chicken, yum! – followed by a epic song session. Because most of these campers are returning for a second, third or even sixth time, the energy around Camp all day was electric to say the least. These kids have been waiting all year for Camp, and we are beyond excited to give them the best three weeks of their life!

We closed out the night at our Opening Campfire where bunks performed themed-skits, along with more songs from the song leaders, funny department presentations from Waterfront and Wilderness and the promise of more to come in the weeks ahead.

Check back tomorrow for the first round of bunk photos and the first full day of Session III, 2019!
