Notes from the Road: Northwest Canada Quest 2024

Today’s blog post takes you behind the scenes of this summer’s Northwest Canada Quest.

Quest Itinerary

  • Meet at Oakland Airport and fly to Seattle, WA
  • 3-night backpacking trip in Olympic National Park along the coast
  • Shabbat in the Washington wilderness
  • Ferry to Orcas Island for sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands
  • Cross the border into Canada for rock climbing in Squamish, British Columbia
  • Return to US to start heading south; explore Mount St. Helens
  • Explore Crater Lake in Oregon and rock jump into its chilly waters
  • Whitewater rafting on the Umpqua River surrounded by large Douglas fir forests

Quest Highlights

  • Two questers practiced and led freilach on the first Friday night Shabbat on Quest
  • The group came together and bonded during the backpacking trip and on a downtime day at the beach
  • One quester had never cooked before this trip and afterwards couldn’t wait to go home and share meals with their family
