“I found a place where I truly belong – my Jewish home.”

My grandparents sent me to Camp Alonim each summer in the hopes that I would develop a strong Jewish identity and one day marry a nice Jewish boy.

I learned about Camp Tawonga as Director of the Jewish Student Union at the University of Oregon. Hearing me on the phone one day, Tawongan Rebecca Wilhelm said, “call that camp back and tell them you’re going to Tawonga this summer.” She introduced me to other Tawongans on campus and I was inspired to apply. I was an Assistant Unit Head (1999), Unit Head (2000) and then year-round (2000-2002). I received the nickname “Hoeni” – made lifelong friends, received invaluable job training, and found a place where I truly belong – my Jewish home.

I also met the love of my life. Jon Boxerman (Counselor 1995, Prep Cook 1997 and 2001) and I met summer 2001. I was attracted to his love of nature and music, creativity, and inventive salad dressings. He was attracted to my authority, specifically my command of the microphone (experienced through the kitchen window) and my ring of keys and the secret places they could unlock.

I fulfilled my grandparent’s dream and married this nice Jewish boy in 2006 surrounded by our Tawonga friends and family and we attend family camp each year with our two sons.

We are honored to help secure the Tawonga legacy.

Oo Ka Chi Ah,

Jen “Hoeni”gsberg Boxerman, Jon, Griffin and Wesley
