Campers Report on Session 3 + 3a
Sessions 3 and 3a are going swimmingly! Half way through Session 3 and wrapping up Session 3a, we are reaching a beautifully bittersweet point in the summer. Over the past week and a half, campers have fostered deep bonds with their bunkmates and units, generating a special connection going into each activity block and outdoor adventure.
In these longer sessions, campers have ample opportunity to experience mission moments and create lasting memories with friends and bunkmates at Tawonga. As long-time Tawongan and current G-10 camper Cypress E. put it: “Camp Tawonga is a place where you make new friends and get closer with your old friends.”
At this point in the sessions, more than half of the units have gone car camping or backpacking in Stanislaus National Forest or Yosemite National Park. These excursions are a key element of the Tawonga experience and produce stronger connections between campers and the great outdoors! Still, the magic that happens within Camp is so special. Our day-to-day programming and all-Camp events prove again and again to be camper favorites.
“Camp Tawonga is so fun — everyone gets to be themselves and do fun activities like going to the lake and A&C,” said G-Bet camper Clarice J.
Campers are also enjoying the Tawonga community atmosphere, with emphasis on inclusivity, positive self-identity and communication.
“Tawonga is so inclusive and open-minded,” B-2 camper Sebby K. said. “The programmers are always open to new ideas for activities and the community is supportive, like with the gender campfires.”
We have had such a blast with Session 3a and cannot wait to enjoy the Nitzanim Closing Campfire with such an enthusiastic group of campers. Lots to look forward to still with Session 3, including another Shabbat, Chugim + Livnot, more Floats and Earth Day!
P.S. In other news, our Sierra Slam Quest returned from their epic adventures last month. Check out highlights here!
