Two-Part Workshop, led by Jamie Simon: Executive Director, Tawonga

Geared toward female-identifying emergent professionals. Applicable to careers in nonprofits, education, business, NGOs, public service and others.

Two 90-minute workshops via Zoom | Sliding scale: $18, $36 and $54 (covers both workshops; email liz@tawonga.org to request a reduced price ticket.)

Part 1

How do you make sure you’re taking the right steps early on in your career? Jamie Simon, seasoned mentor to hundreds of young female-identifying professionals, will answer that question. Part 1 of this powerful workshop examines ways to channel personal strengths and passions into a productive job search and fulfilling career.

Part 2

The second part of this training supports women in navigating the job market with assertiveness, confidence and grace. Jamie offers a step-by-step guide to nailing the job application process, resume building, interviewing and negotiating compensation. Participants will learn tips to advocate for themselves, with an eye toward overcoming sexism.

Both Part 1 and Part 2 will be interactive, with opportunities to share and ask questions.

Geared towards parents with children 2-7 years old, open to all.

Workshop Description

Are you running into constant power struggles with your child? Are parts of your daily schedule feeling harder than they used to? Have tantrums increased and all you’re asking is for your child to wash their hands? Sign up for this workshop with early childhood expert and Tawonga Director, Shoshie Flagg to dive into specific tips that you can take home and start using today. The workshop will be interactive and there will be time to share with other parents and get your questions answered.

About Shoshie Flagg

With over 10 years of experience working with families and young children, Shoshie has a deep understanding of both typical and atypical early childhood development. Shoshie has experience developing and implementing individualized and group programs for children, and coaching and mentoring families on a variety of different topics including cognitive, social, emotional, language, and motor development. Shoshie acts as the parent liaison at Tawonga, and ensures that families are well taken care of while their children are at Camp.

Shoshie earned a Masters in Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood Special Education Credential from Mills College and a B.A. in Developmental Psychology from UC Santa Cruz. She also worked as a special education preschool teacher in Alameda Unified School District – collaborating with families and speech, occupational, vision, physical and behavioral therapists. Shoshie lives in San Francisco with her husband and their dog, Charlie.

Training Description

As the pandemic forces so many organizations to work remotely, how do managers build a responsive culture that ensures a high functioning team and maintains staff morale? Jamie Simon, with 15 years leadership experience at Camp Tawonga, offers a timely and interactive session to help supervisors effectively support their remote staff. Participants will leave with actionable takeaways to keep staff accountable to their work while also finding joy in their projects.

Training Description

How do you lead an organization during a crisis in a way that is effective, motivating and reassuring? Jamie Simon leverages 15 years of leadership at Camp Tawonga to facilitate this interactive workshop, covering a thorough overview of best practices and applicable guidelines to:

  • Organize teams to work together effectively,
  • Inspire employees toward their optimal productivity,
  • Retain staff and clients through challenges such as furloughs and layoffs,
  • Manage adjusting teams and team roles,
  • Communicate internally and externally with clarity and assurance
