It’s The First Day of Camp!

We are thrilled to welcome our first campers of the 2017 season! The campers arrived to an enthusiastic crowd of staff welcoming them as they walked off the buses, eagerly awaiting their week of fun. Today was filled with excitement as new and old Tawongan’s got acquainted with their counselors, bunks and bunkmates. Today’s activities included lots of icebreakers and group bonding to let the campers get to know each other better to build strong friendships during A Taste of Camp!

Events around camp got started right away as campers began crafting their individual bunk cheers for tonight’s opening campfire. Havurah Hikes took campers with their counselors around camp to get familiar with the locations of important buildings and activities around Tawonga. During these hikes, the routines and rhythms of camp are reviewed to ensure all kids feel comfortable and safe. After the campers finished their hikes, everyone gathered in the Dining Hall to enjoy the first dinner of camp. The delicious dinner of teriyaki chicken, vegetables and rice (with lots of additional options available) led into the Opening Campfire, where every single camper showcased their creative talents by reciting their bunk cheers in front of the whole camp!

Tonight, bunks will create their own “10 Commandments” group agreements to live by. Everyone will brush their teeth, put their pajamas on and get a great night of sleep to get ready for the first full day tomorrow.
