Mapping Out Session II – and Bunk Photos!

Session II is off to an amazing start on this first full day together! After breakfast, campers took an in-depth tour of Tawonga during what we call Rotations, a time to get familiar with all of our specialist departments and activities offered at Camp.

Departments like drama, dance, music, arts & crafts, Teva (nature), Jewish programming and more all introduced themselves to campers through skits, songs, games and dances. Rotations introduce cabins to every activity (known as “blocks”) and help their counselors plan creative and customized schedules for the duration of the session. At Camp, no two schedules are alike. Every session, each co-pairing of bunk counselors create a totally original schedule based on what their kids are excited to try based on Rotations and previous experience.

Some exciting new blocks campers will be able to try this session include “Rap and Rhythm” and “Runway Poets,” offered through the greater department of programming. Both of these blocks focus on incorporating spoken word and poetry as a means of self expression with the campers.

Additionally, campers will be able to play Ga-Ga, Calvin ball (a game based on the lovable comic book series Calvin & Hobbes), dodgeball and World Cup themed blocks. Arts and Crafts will continue to keep Camp colorful with shrinky-dinks, candle-making, tie-dye,  jewelry-making and more.

By inviting all bunks along to Rotations, every camper has a say in what goes on the schedule, a process that emphasizes consensus-based decision making, which is core to the second rung of our Mission.

We can’t wait to see what Session II puts on the schedule!
