Notes From the Road: Magical Mystery Tour Quest
Today’s post provides a glimpse into the magic behind Tawonga’s Magical Mystery Tour Quest! Check it out below along with photos taken by our skilled Quest leaders (plus photos from Session III).
On Tawonga Quests, teens sleep under the stars, share leadership responsibilities and learn new skills in a supportive, small-group environment. Each trip follows a different itinerary and offers exciting outdoor activities like backpacking, rock climbing, sea kayaking and river rafting, which are designed to challenge, empower and inspire. Teens choose the music, set the menu, and have fun together – it’s like a road trip with a dozen friends into the natural world.
Magical Mystery Tour
Two weeks, 12 teens, two Quest leaders and an open road (and trail and river). This was the recipe for our Magical Mystery Tour Quest, which returned last week from an epic adventure.

Quest Itinerary
The exact itinerary of the Magical Mystery Tour is a well-guarded secret from destination to destination. Teens work together to solve clues that reveal bit by bit where they will be headed next. The adventure unfolds to take the group on a road trip across California to mountains, rivers, and the sea, combining outdoor adventures and fun. This summer, Questers started in Yosemite, rafted the American River and ventured to Point Reyes National Seashore.
Quest Highlights
- Triumphantly finishing the backpacking hike at Chilnaulna Falls, where campers were able to enjoy a scenic view and swim in a beautiful river.
- Celebrating Shabbat together after backpacking and feeling connected after successfully completing such a challenging hike!
Quest Leader Inspiration
“I’m inspired by getting to create lifelong memories for campers. Seeing kids push past what they think their limits are is so rewarding as a Quest leader. These trips are a great way for kids to learn independence.” – Hannah Gould
