Tawonga Tidbit

Tawonga Tidbit

Tawonga Tidbit brings you a daily dose of Camp with our kitchen menu, camp birthdays, and more. We hope this series brings you a tidbit closer to Tawonga.

Today’s Weather: High of 96, low of 65

Every day – and particularly on warmer days like today – counselors make sure the campers are applying (and re-applying) sunscreen and drinking plenty of water. Plus, during the hottest time of the day, kids relax in the shade of their cabins during Rest Hour. In case you missed our post on what a typical day at Camp Tawonga looks like, read here.

Today’s Kitchen Menu:

  • Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, English muffins with jam and orange slices
  • Lunch: Sandwich bar with all the fixins: cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and condiments. Dessert: apples
  • Dinner: Spaghetti with meat and tomato sauce, focaccia, cauliflower and salad. Dessert: chocolate cake!

Delicious vegetarian alternatives are provided for all Camp meals, in addition to cereal and oatmeal  for breakfast, and sun butter & jelly sandwiches during lunch and dinner, plus a salad bar option. In addition to these three square meals, Tawonga’s kitchen also provides a snack every afternoon for the campers and staff, like gogurt, string cheese, pretzels or fruit.

Where the Campers Are: B-1 and all Haifa bunks are on day hikes today with their counselors, led by our inspiring backpacking leaders. The bunks in Haifa are G-7, G-8, B-7, B-8A and B-8B. All other bunks are in Camp.

Today’s Birthdays: Happy birthday to camper, Lucas C. and Counselor-In-Training, Miles B.!

Bonus Section: The Camp Tawonga Mission

In this short video, Camp Director Becca Meyer explains Tawonga’s four-part mission, which has remained unchanged since the camp’s founding in 1925. Tawonga’s mission has a powerful effect on children, teens and families alike: building self esteem, fostering connections to community and nature, and developing spirituality and positive Jewish identities. Enjoy!
