Thank Goodness It’s Friday!
At Camp Tawonga, Friday is not like any other day of the week. All of our bunks return from backpacking trips and day hikes so everyone is together in camp. All normal activities end after 3:45 P.M. when campers are given time to get cleaned up and ready for Shabbat dinner. At 5:30 P.M. our Songleaders will gather outside our Dining Hall with a handful of campers and staff to begin our traditional Shabbat Stroll with Tawonga’s Torah around the property. The Stroll winds its way through the girls’ side of Camp, collecting cabins as it passes by. During this time cabins will gather together dressed in their Shabbat best to take a quick group photo or two before joining the Stroll. The Stroll will then pass through to the boys side of Camp and ends back at the Dining Hall. Before being let into the Dining Hall to enjoy a delicious Shabbat dinner, campers and staff alike have time to wish each other “Shabbat Shalom” and exchange hugs and photos. Once inside the dining hall, all of Camp participates in the traditional blessings for the candles, grape juice and challah before digging in to a delicious meal followed by singing, dancing and Kabbalat Shabbat services.
