Tawonga Tidbit

Tawonga Tidbit

Today was jam-packed with fun activities and bunk bonding, a surprise to noone! Below are a few highlights you’ll see in the photos.

Galil campers (B-3, B-4, G-3, G-4 and AG-4) made and presented their beautiful timbrels of hope. This activity is part of our Jewish theme this summer, “Choose Hope” and is based on the story of Miriam’s timbrel from the Torah.  When rushing to escape the plight of the Israelites in Egypt, even in her haste, Miriam chose to bring a timbrel (tambourine), having the foresight that she would eventually be leading the Jewish people in a celebration of freedom. Campers are personalizing their timbrels and finding deep meaning in this theme.

Campers also participated in a Water Appreciation Chugim (Chugim means a choice period in Hebrew), giving gratitude to Tawonga’s popular Secret Beach river spot.

Lastly, B-12 participated in night photography art last night (surprise), using flashlights and a low shutter speed to make cool designs with the light. Enjoy!

🎂 Birthdays

What’s so special about today? We’re celebrating the birthdays of camper Julia W. and Waterfront Staff Allegra D.! Happy birthday Julia and Allegra – enjoy your birthday treats.

Curious what celebrating a birthday at Camp Tawonga looks like? Check out this post.

☀️ How’s the Weather?

Partly cloudy with a high of 91, low of 65

On an especially hot day like today, counselors always make sure that campers stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and cool off in the pool or the beautiful Tuolumne river.

🎼 In Case You Missed It…

Listen to Oscar nominated screenwriter Lisa Cholodenko and Wendy Melvoin sing “Shower the People,” from our 95th anniversary concert! Lisa was on Tawonga’s staff in the 1980s serving as a counselor, unit head and song leader. Lisa and Wendy have a child attending Tawonga this summer. Keeping the Tawonga traditions alive, we’d say l’dor v’dor – meaning “from generation to generation.”

The Tawonga Tidbit provides a daily dose of Camp with our kitchen menu, Camp birthdays and more. We hope this series brings you a bit closer to Tawonga!
